Protecting killer whales

Cetus Research & Conservation Society

Cetus is a marine conservation organisation dedicated to protecting resident Killer Whales and other marine mammals of BC's coast. They are only Canadian organisation working on the Pacific coast actively interceding to protect whales from the harm caused by vessel traffic.

Founded in 2005, Cetus operates two principal programs in the critical habitat of the Northern and Southern Resident Killer Whales: Straitwatch operates primarily in the waters around Victoria, and The Robson Bight Warden Program operates in Johnstone Strait around the Michael Bigg Robson Bight Ecological Reserve. These two programs are based on the water, directly addressing vessel traffic harm to marine mammals.

The Gordon and Patricia Gray Animal Welfare Foundation's support helps Cetus to analyse the efficacy of new measures and guidelines for vessels which the Federal Government has introduced over the last couple of years.
